The Flying Scotsman

What a lovely day we spent on the Flying Scotsman from York to Carlise and back (though we got off at Skipton on the way back). We met some lovely people, had a great time and I even got to go on the footplate. It’s amazing what this locomotive does to people, as there were people everywhere taking photos of it, and just coming to look when it went by.

I first saw it at Dinting Railway Centre when I was about 12 or 13, though if I remember correctly it was painted black. I think it only visited for a few days and we happened to go to see the Blue Peter. We lived in Glossop then and could see and hear the steam trains across the valley. It’s a shame it closed, though I know they moved a lot of it to Ingrow, which is near where we are now in Skipton.

Here are some of the photos from the day.
